Here are 3 ways you can make your short videos more useful, enjoyable, and memorable.

  1. Keep it short. If you’re doing a series of videos, there’s no reason to cram too much into one. If you’re only doing one but have a lot to say, consider doing a few videos.  Longer videos are more difficult. It’s much easier to speak clearly for 1 – 2 minutes than for 3 or 4.And, there’s only so much they can absorb in one bite. Instead of inundating them with a lot to think about, give them something to consider. Also, most people will take a few minutes to watch a short video, but may put off a longer video, thinking they’ll watch it when they have more time. When does anyone have more time? Right?
  2. Keep it upbeat. There’s nothing worse than trying to watch someone with a low energy, monotone voice giving you information. Your videos can be great, you can do it, but it just doesn’t work. Your audience picks up on your energy and passion. Don’t be afraid to show it. And what about your body language…. Poor posture can decrease credibility. Stand up straight and tall, look the camera in the eye with confidence.
  3. Keep it targeted. Consider 2 things: who you’re trying to reach and what you’re trying to accomplish.
So who is that ideal audience? What do THEY need to know, that YOU can discuss? It HAS to be useful for them. They have get some value for their time spent watching.

And your goals… To answer customer questions and reduce support calls? To gain brand recognition and trust? More visibility?

For example: my ideal audience is small businesses who have either of the goals I just mentioned (which is why I used them as example).

My GOAL is to get more people using video as a communication tool and encourage them to use our professional production services to take their videos to the next level, without a lot of effort.

What stands in their way, is typically “finding the time”, which is usually code for not sure what to do.

My videos are designed to get them comfortable with the idea of doing video and come to us for help. And if they don’t, then hopefully we’ve earned some good karma.
