Using YouTube to Boost your SEO

YouTube is more than just a site to host your video, it’s also the 2nd largest search engine in the world. Because of this, uploading your video to YouTube can significantly help your SEO.

Today, we are going talk about some tips to get your video to show up first when people search for your content.

First of all, pick a good title for your video. Think of the title as a headline that helps your audience understand your content. Your title should be short and contain words that will capture people’s attention.

You can have up to 200 searchable characters in your title, but less than half of those are shown in the search results. So, make sure your important keywords are in the first 60 characters.

The next important element to maximizing your video’s SEO is its description. Your description is searchable text that describes what your video is about. Make sure the most important information is in the first two sentences since this is what appears below the title in any search.

Your video’s description is also a good place to include links to your web and social media sites.

Another great place to add searchable keywords is in your video tags. Make sure you put the most important keywords first. Use longer tags as they are less competitive and more likely to drive your specific audience to your video. For example, instead of “Video Production” put “Corporate Video Production” that way you’re more likely to be found when someone searches for your specific services.

You can use as many tags as you want, but keep in mind the more words you use, the less relevance you get on each word.

We’ve talked about thumbnails in other blogs, but they are worth mentioning again because the right thumbnail attracts greater audience numbers to your video.

YouTube uses speech recognition to automatically create a transcript of your video. However, since the speech recognition is only about 70% accurate, this transcription is not searchable.
We recommend correcting YouTube’s transcription or uploading your own so it will be accurate and searchable.

Finally, since the amount of interaction a video gets helps its placement in search results, you’ll want to post it where people will see it. Since Facebook has taken over as the most popular place to watch videos, putting your video on your Facebook page will help your SEO on YouTube.

Capturing Client Success Stories

Hi. Welcome to CNU on video. Today I want to talk a little bit about testimonials. But I prefer to call them Client Success Stories. This is because you don’t just want someone “giving a testimonial” for your company on video.

People want to hear an actual story.

So, here are some tips on how you can turn testimonials into great Video Success Stories.

First, this isn’t a grade school photo, so don’t have your subject stand against a wall. This can make the video look flat and two dimensional. To add more depth and remove shadows, put them in the middle of the room about 6-8 feet from the background.

Next, this is the Shape of Video. This is your cell phone. Video, cell phone, Video, Cell phone. Hold your cell phone horizontally when shooting. It’s the shape of video.

Next, line up your shot. Make sure there’s not too much room above their head, but don’t cut it off at the top either.
Try to have them either centered, or slightly off center facing inward.

The message is the most important part, so if you can, use a microphone. There are clip on microphones available for less than $20 that plug right into your cell phone. It reduces background noise and makes their voice more clear.

Also, stop shaky video. Put your camera or cell phone on a tripod or steady surface when recording.

If you don’t have a tripod, you can use a simple piece of string to help keep it stable.

Like I said earlier you want a success story, not just a testimonial. In order to get that success story, you’ll need to ask the right questions. Before, during, and after.

What was the problem you had that prompted you to talk to me?What did you like best about working with me? And how have things improved since working with me?

Also, keep in mind that some people ramble the first time you ask a question and are much more concise the second time, and other people give a great answer the first time but struggle the second because they are trying to remember what they said the first time. Always ask the question twice so you can pick the better of the two.

Finally, keep the video short. Tell them you’re looking for 30 seconds. You’ll get about a minute. You really don’t want anything longer than that.

Getting The Most Out of Your Youtube Profile

If you’ve ever had a video made, you most likely uploaded it to YouTube. But does your profile look as good as your video?
Today, we’re going to talk about getting the most out of your YouTube profile.

First and foremost, YouTube is a social sharing site so you want your profile to be inviting. Don’t just use it as a place to host your video, make it an extension of your website.

Use the same header on your YouTube channel as you have on your website. And make sure you have your company logo on your channel as well.

Fill out the “about” section. This is where you can put a description of your business, links to your web and social media sites and an email address where people can contact you.

If you connect your YouTube channel to your other social media sites like twitter or Google plus, you can set every video you upload to automatically post to those sites as well.
When you upload a video, YouTube also gives your video an embed code so you can put it on your website or blog.

One of YouTube’s most helpful resources is the analytics page. Here, you can see the demographics of who’s viewing your video, where they’re viewing it from and how long they’re watching. This is a great way to see if your intended audience is viewing and engaging with your video.

If you have multiple videos like blogs or tips, you can put them in a playlist so viewers will be more inclined to watch multiple videos in one sitting. You can embed your playlist to your website so viewers can watch from your website or your YouTube page.

You can put a clickable box on your video called an annotation.
This can be used in your video to send viewers to related videos you’ve made. Or, if you link your website to your YouTube account, you can put a link to your website in annotations. This is great if you’re doing a product video and want to link viewers directly to the product page on your website.
